North side of Burgos 8:50am
Where do the Spanish hide their toilets? I was looking for one at the cathedral yesterday and I could use one now. Just made my way across Burgos past Monastery Las Huelgas where I saw a nun in habit go past a door but visiting doesn't start till 10. I am back on the Camino right where I planned to join it.
The peregrinos last night practiced an Italian hymn and sangit at the end of mass. Really pissed off with a narrow minded American at the albergue. He says Obama is a communist but when I explained to him what communism is he said that is fascism. Obama is a communist because he supports abortion- or murdering children as he put it.
Really nice to see Eva's smile this morning abd sorry I couldn't make contact with Gwen. There was a stork nest on an old church I went past. The noise from the chattering of their beaks was really loud. I wouldn't want them on the roof of my house and I guess the Spanish think the same as I haven't seen them on house rooves.
Rabe de la Calzados 11:50am
Shortly after the last entry I came to Hospital de Rey which I thought I had missed. It is a medieval hostel renovated by the university. It was being used as an election voting station and was open. I went in to look for a toilet as well as to be nosy. I suddenly realized that I don't know how to ask for the way to the toilet in Spanish so I left . Finally found one here and used the last of the toilet paper. The monastery here through the barman give St Christopher medals to all the pilgrims. Janet and Linda were here so we caught up on each others Caminos and Janet tied the medal around my neck. So far today the spiritual part of the Camino seems to have deserted me.
Hornillos de Camino 3:30pm
Got here just before 2pm and hot one of the last 6 beds in the attic of the Casa Rural. The town is full because the townhall uusually used as an overflow for the albergue is being used for the elections. Guy in the bar has a dwelling some where near and 3 spare beds. Filled them in no time. Once again the Taxi is being called in to take people to nearby towns. I think some are going back to Burgos. Had lunch in the bar, said I wanted calamari but was told there wasn't any. Peeved off when someone else got it later. I will be over budget today as the 15 euros only covers the room and not meals. My feet are quite sore today - especially the right one - I don't think I would have enjoyed walking another 11km to the next albergue
