The Miki Trophy

Members of Dog Agility Wellington Group (or Zone 3 Dog Agility Club as it was then) have competed for this shield twice a year for 16 years, and I have been a member of the club for all those years. None of the winners in the first 4 years compete in agility any more (For those with long memories Vivian Dixon, Ian Skachill, Brian Grimstrup, Marilyn Pierson, Cathy Bock, Helen Slater, Ian MacDonald, Glen Armitage).

There are many well known names on the trophy, Peter & Karen de Wit, Kate Butler, Lyn Sayers, Rebecca Sidwell. In fact it is pretty much a who's who of the club own the years.

But up until tonight one name has been missing - mine. Over the years I have competed for the trophy with Tip, Shiloh, Ben, Ella, Freya and Rapid. Tonight's course was fairly tough. It was one of Campbell List's Intermediate courses from Gisborne but when squeezed into a 25 x 30m area with a few pillars thrown in it was way harder than in Gisborne. Adding to my foreboding was being fairly certain I had got a refusal on the course at Gisborne.

However Rapid was working really well. I nearly sent him onto the wrong jump as I dodged around the pillar but recovered just quick enough to avoid a refusal. He did all his contacts. In fact I must say Rapid's contacts are way better than before my trip to India - thanks Simon for what ever it was you did at training while I was away.

Earlier in the evening the club had a meeting with Porirua City Council. We have agreed to restrict where campers park and to ask competitors not to arrive before 7:30am. Hopefully this will satisfy the neighbours and the complaints will cease - but I suspect not.
