Walked by me 1019.7km walked by Idol 654.6km walked by Toby 406.9km funds raised $10,047
Another splendid dinner from Vivienne last night - and a good nights sleep. I didn't stay up late talking church politics.
Much easier getting myself organised today without having to have multiple takes - and the breakfast was once again very good. I even had time to buy a coffee when I got to Dannevirke. However things then started to go to hell - first I spilled the coffee in the car, then I dropped my notes and had to back up 2 blocks to find it. So by the edge of built up Dannevirke I was 21 minutes late and never got better than 10 minutes late all day and arrived 32minutes late at the finish point but then worked another 1.1km to the corner of Dave and Jenny's street.
The day started sunny but a cold wind soon came up. Mid morning there were showers and then as I was coming off the Papatawa rail brdige some hail which Idol really didn't like (and nor did I - it stings when it hits you and makes you cold and wet).
No issues with the traffic today Where I decided bridges could be done without Jenny escorting me across no trucks came my direction while I was on them. Toby got to do the first two bridges out to the railway crossing south of Dannevirke. Idol then got to walk along the section of road rebuilt about 2 years ago and still has a lot of sharp stones on the shoulder.
1000km walked came up just before Oruakeretaki Stream and I was delighted to find daffodils in flower there - a sure sign to me of God's grace.
Then came in quick succession the two bridges I needed and escort across - Oruakeretaki Stream and Oringi rail bridge. Frequently when the traffic is slowed I get a donation but today a rare thing happened - a large truck stopping alongside me after the first bridge and passing a donation down for the bucket.
After crossing Papatawa Rail bridge I left State Highway 2 for the last time. Most of the last 600km of the walk from Tauranga have been along State Highway 2. It was back roads all the way for the rest of the day and Toby really enjoyed having very little traffic.
A what is this place called question. Not far from Woodville at the corner of Pinfold Rd and Valley Rd is this old dairy factory. What is this place called. Anywhere that had a dairy factory would have acquired a place name even though i can't find it on the map now. The sign reads "United Dairy Co Ltd Est 1912".
