The drive to McDoanlds was a bit of a disaster. I though I had the address for ne on edge of Orleans but I have give the one for thee McDonalds at the railway station. Saw another burger place along the way but GPS wouldn't take me back that way. Finally gave up on it drove in Saran town centre and found a mexican pizza restaurant open. The burger I had was fairly good.
Friday had to start with housekeeping. It was time to was some clothes. The guy who served breakfast gave me an address for a laundromat. GPS in the car wouldn't believe the street I wanted existed even though it had taken me along it last night in the fruitless search for McDoanlds last night. Found it with Google on the phone. By then it was nearly 11am finding a park in Orleans was a disaster with GPS constantly taking back to the street that was closed for road works. Finally told it to shut up and found parking by myself.
The cathedral was awesome. I went to Maison Jean d;Arc after mixed reviews. All they have at the house is an audio presentation but the ticket also takes you into the Musee Historique et Archeologique that opens at 1:30pm. It didn't.
Went to 2 different Orange shops to try and get my phone sorted. At the first I queued ages for a guy who was hopeless but then sent me to the other shop where they were able to get it to receive calls from non-orange numbers. So cross fingers its fixed. 2pm and Museum still not open. Back to the car and panic as I can't see the folder with my tickets and passport - did I leave the car unlocked and it's stolen. Finally found it pushed down between the seat - so glad it is bright red - it now lives in the glovebox,
Another battle with GPS that kept sending me down impossibly narrow roads (scraped the car AGAIN) and trying to send me in the wrong direction down 1 lane rads. I turned it of Orleans on the road signposted to Blois then turned it on to get directions for Chambort. Bloody GPS said I was heading the wrong way and made me do a series of turn - again the wrong way along a one way street. Interestingly once I went the only way I could on that street it kept me going that way for ages until we met up with the road I was on going the right way - when it said I was going the wrong way.
Loved the chateaux at Chambort - in fact so much they kicked me out at closing time - I was way over the 1 hour the audio guide said it took. The day plan had been to do Chevernay and Blois as well but the day was over.
I would hate to live in it - but the so did the Franscois I who had it built and stayed about 40 days, and the other french kings selmom used it. It has a lovely collection of royal coaches all ready for when the 2nd republic made the Count of Chambord king - but they never did.
I had booked into a hotel in the tiny village of Pocé-sur-Cisse - Auberge de la Rambege. La Ramberge I think is the stream that runs through the village. Journey there was un-eventful. I was told the roads in France were empty. Not been my experience so far.
The hostess speaks good English. There are a group of older people from around the region who are on a walking trip - pub to pub. I finished up playing Mikado with them. I think I invented a new rule - the others just laughed and played that rule too. I'm coming back here tonight.
