Walked today - almost nothing but drove a long way.
Near Rangiora tonight staying with Rob & Sue McKee. When Paul & I arrived Rob helped with transferring the stuff from the car and into the van. The van from Abell Rentals is great. Heaps of room for everything. It has a platform in the back that was a bed but is now used for the dog crates. All the bags go underneath. The crates have been strapped down so they won't roll around on the corners. Best of all Rob had cooked a roast dinner. Went down really well with a bottle of Mark's wine.
Just before they were about to start loading cars onto the ferry I realised I didn't have my phone. Too late to go back and get. Paul rang Fiona and she went around to my place. She then discovered the key she had that we thought was for the front door was for the garage. So a locksmith was called in and with Shane's help my phone is now on the way.
The Straitsman was a little late leaving and a bit longer than timetabled. It was a little rough in the strait and I had to go outside but once we were in the sounds all was fine. I took the collecting bucket around the ferry and got about $100 (I haven't counted it yet) - pretty good with only 94 passengers on board.
By the time the photos with the ferry had been taken and the dogs walked it was 12:30. Instead of 5 hours to get to Christchurch we only had 4. So no more stops for the dogs, a quick stop at Kaikoura to grab a sandwich and keep driving. Paul rang Scotty at Abell Rentals when we were at Omihi to let him know we would be late. It was arranged for the van to be left out on the road if we didn't get there on time. As it turned out the traffic through Christchurch wasn't too bad and we made it with a few minutes to spare.
Rapid is in a crate for the first time since he was a puppy and I think he hates me.
