Champions and legs that don't work.

Last Saturday at the Wellington Hurricanines tournament at Kapiti Rapid got his 100th point to become a Flygility Champion. It must be said that we didn't really do very well. Normally when Rebecca isn't present we can make it through to the semifinals. However the draw didn't go well for Rapid. In Intermediate and Advanced we came up against a dog that made the finals in the second round, and in Open we drew Jed in the first round.

Rapid couldn't understand what all the fuss was about but was happy to eat the whole container of treats when it was offered to him after he won his first race. While the weather forecast had been dreadful the weather wasn't to bad so I was still dry come prize giving. Only 3 buckets of water but they were cold enough. Then Marion and Elaine covered me in silly string - blue and yellow to match the club colours.

I had a cold on Sunday but I don't think that can be blamed on the wetting. Fortunately it had abated by Tuesday when I went off to have the varicose vein in my right leg treated by Endovenous Laser Treatment. This involves inserting a fibre into the vein in the lower leg and running it up the vein all the way to the groin. Local anesthetic is injected at intervals along the leg. A laser is attached to the fibre which is then slowly withdrawn cauterising the vein along its length. The painful part was injecting the chemicals to close up the branch veins in my calf.

Once this was done padding was stuck on to my leg along the line of the vein and then a compression stocking was put on. I was then sent off for an hours walk. This was great as the anesthetic still hadn't worn off and I didn't feel a thing. I then went to work for the afternoon.

Got a ring late afternoon to say Father was in hospital and was to have tests and could go home tomorrow. Tomorrow turned out to be not Wednesday but Friday. In the interim they gave him 2 units of blood and did several tests none of which established the cause of him losing blood but did establish what we already knew - he has a dicky heart. A further test that was originally requested in July 2009 has now been requested again. I wonder when it will happen.

I went back into the office on Wednesday for a full day but I was fairly uncomfortable so on Thursday I worked from home. On Friday I worked part of the day only in the office.

Today I was on my feet quite a lot. Interestingly once I went for a proper walk the leg was more comfortable than it had been while cleaning the church and doing flygility link.
