Espinal -Zabaldica- Pamplona-Cizur Menot

This is my first attempt at writing the blog on my phone.

Espinal 15 May 6:15am
Thank God for small miracles. I made it through the night without having to go to the toilet.  I feel I failed the pilgrims at dinner last night as I didn't initiate prayers before eating. The weather forecast is good for the next few days.

My feet aren't hurting so I won't take anti-inflamatoried today but will keep them near the top of my pack in case things change. The pilgrim meals are totally lacking in roughage. I am going to have to buy fruit. I have 2 apples that have come with me since Lucon. Today I must eat them. Almost everyone is up but the lights are still off in the bedroom. Makes it hard to pack. The hotel was full last night so clearly being late is going to be a problem with finding a bed.

Zabaldica 7pm.
I spent most of today walking with Josh. He told me the story of his wife's death. Zabaldica is a parish hostel. The admittance is by donation but the package includes going to mass, a tour of the 13th century church, dinner and a blessing all mandatory. I thought this place would be empty but is fairly full in spite it being slightly off the Camino and not on the list of hostels given out at registration. L was surprised the nun who showed us around the church and did the blessing wore trousers. My feet are very sore tonight so I should have taken the anti-inflamatories. Whereas yesterday I had overI had over 2 hours on my own today it was just minutes. I made good time to Zubiri but was slow from there. Just 729.3km to Santiago de Compostela.

Pamplona Cathedral 16May 10:15
I wandered into the cathedral intending to pray with Jan and another pilgrim from Slovenia. Mass had just started so I stayed till it finished. I was appalled that they up and walked out after 10minutes. They are both catholics and I expected they would act like pilgrims and stay till the end. I am also angry at the number of tourists ignoring the multilingual sign saying the cathedral opened at 10:30 and walking around taking photos while mass was on.
The Kings of Navarre are buried here.

Last night was one of my best on the Camino. The atmosphere was spiritual rather than that of a tourist night stop.  It seems over the last 2 years there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people doing the Camino in May.

Cizor Menor 5pm
This is the last suburb of Pamplona. The refuge is very popular so I expect all 50 beds will shortly be full. I have a small blister on my left foot 2nd toe. It has been glorious weather here today. Pleasant to have lost the cold wind that has been there since the start of the Camino
.I found the post office in Pamplona and got the parcel Fiona sent. Only took me an hour and I used Google maps in the end. I was looking for a big yellow sign like the posting boxes. It is a very old stone building with no signs other than those carved in the stone. Communication was a problem but finally they understood I wanted to pick up a parcel from New Zealand not send one.

I needed to put more money on my phone already. The staff in the phone shop had no English and kept saying when I gave them the written question of what was the price of txt and calls to NZ that it couldn't be done as I am one an Internet only plan.  I had 3 tries at getting money from an ATM. Finally I rang ANZ who said I was trying to get money from a savings account. Switched to asking for it from Savings and it came out of my cheque account. Went to the Navarre museum to see the Goya. Really pleased to find out entry was free for peregrinos.

I have to go and do something else the Poms around me are really annoying me. One is a shocking name dropper.
