Day 43 Rest Day at Arrowtown

Walked today by Mike, Ella and Rapid 2.7km 11577 steps

I had the luxury of sleeping in to 6:30am this morning but I went back to bed after breakfast for another hour. After a radio interview I picked up Ted and took a ridiculously long time to walk a very short distance - from Coronet Peak Rd to where Arthur's Point Hotel was in January but is no more. A young woman went past me at about twice my pace. For the last little bit I could hear the jet boats roaring in the Shotover River. At various times I felt something sharp under my foot. I thought it must be a stone inside my jandal but when I lifted my foot out there was nothing there. In the afternoon I felt it again when there was no loss gravel around. Investigation found a piece of road grit that had got into my jandal sole then worked its way inwards. Being rubber it was easy to remove the bit of grit that had a very sharp point. It surprises me that the dogs can walk on this at all without shoes.

I visited Magic Memories where Kate works and rattled the bucket quite successfully. I also went back to the Queenstown National Bank and got the certificate on my computer reset that was due to expire in a couple of weeks. Along the way I had phone calls from both Jude and Paul.

After a siesta and an attempt to catch up with my emails it was off for a massage. Kirsty worked very hard at removing the knots in my leg muscles and I feel much better tonight.

I spent the rest of the afternoon procrastinating over popping the blister on my right heel. When I finally removed the dressing it had burst so I didn't need to pop it. During this time my niece Joanna who is a nurse at Waitakere Hospital rang very worried about my blisters. She has managed to get some samples of something she thinks will help from the Smith & Nephew rep and will send them to Gore.

Tonight Kate, Ngaire, Ted & I went to Pesto - a pizza and pasta restaurant in Arrowtown. The Antepasto was devine and we ate so much we had trouble eating out mains. There was plenty of left overs to be reheated some other night. Nobody wanted desert. Over a cup of tea Ted applied new dressings to my blisters. I'm hopeful that I will be able to walk well tomorrow and start making up some of the distance from yesterday.
