Frustrations

Before today's flygility tournament at Wanganui Rapid needed 3 points to become a Flygility champion. The first event was intermediate and Rapid drew Ngaire O'Rourke's Sweeney. Sweeney, a Kelpie, is usually faster than Rapid so I was pretty certain that Rapid would be beaten, which is what happened in straight races.

The advanced course had a weave a at the far end of the course. Rapid is a pretty reliable weaving dog so I thought this would work to our advantage. Our opponent was Jonna Gibson's Valhund Heydoh. Rapid usually beats Heydoh so I was confident. First race Rapid knocked the ball for miles and was beaten. Second race he did a clean catch and beat Heydoh. 1 race each so the third race was the decider. Rapid did a bad catch again and was behind Heydoh getting to the weave. Out of the weave he was right up with Heydoh and by the time he left the tunnel Rapid was just in front. I was really excited when Rapid was first to the finish then I get told he missed a weave pole. So Heydoh wins. Interestingly in his next race against Sputnik Heydoh had to rerun every time.

Last chance was the Open Teams event. Rapid drew his littermate Song as a partner and was up against Pippi and (I forget). These were steady dogs but slower than Rapid and Song so as expected we won in straight races. The next round we were against the eventual runners up - Rocket and Toonie. Song was faster than Toonie but Rocket whipped the pants off Rapid.

So at the end of the day I had only 1 of the 3 points I needed for the title. Better luck tomorrow.
